Yakima Fire Department (YFD) firefighters have responded to multiple incidents this week involving fire outdoors and along the Yakima Greenway.
YFD urges the community to be fire safe and to not burn outdoors. Due to dry conditions and hot summer temperatures, any spark at this time of year can quickly become a large wildfire.
“Often the best defense for YFD is a quick offense,” said Yakima Fire Chief Aaron Markham. “If you see something, say something. The more quickly we can respond to an incident, the better chance we have of containing it before it is too large to control with our resources.”
Markham also reminds the public that fire danger is a greater concern this summer due to unseasonably cool temperatures and above-normal rainfall in spring that increased the fuel load in the Yakima area.
