Fire Destroys Home on South 12th Avenue

Early this morning, Sunday, two people escaped unharmed from a fire that destroyed a house in the 1500 block of South 12th Avenue. (It is the practice of the Yakima Fire Department to not release the specific address of a private home involved in a fire or other emergency response.)

The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) was called to the scene at 12:06 am this morning. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire inside the house that had extended into the attic. The fire burned through the roof.

Two people were inside the house at the time the fire started. They crawled out the windows to escape.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The estimated dollar loss is $140,000 for the house and $20,000 for the contents.

The Yakima Police Department assisted at the scene. The Red Cross was also called to the scene to provide assistance.

It was third house fire YFD responded to in less than 48 hours. There were no injuries reported. The three fires combined caused an estimated $290,000 in damages.
