Yakima Fire Department (YFD) firefighters responded to a structure fire early Tuesday morning, November 29th, in the 900 block of South 80th Avenue that caused an estimated $100,000 in damages. No injuries were reported from the fire.
YFD was called to the scene at 6:00 am Tuesday. Upon arrival, crews found a two-story residence with heavy fire coming from a downstairs bedroom window. A quick search by firefighters confirmed everyone was out of the house.
Crews quickly attacked the fire and confined it to the bedroom. Fire damage was limited to the bedroom and the exterior of the structure where fire vented from the window. Smoke damage was found throughout most of the residence.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. However, preliminary findings suggest the fire started from an overloaded electrical circuit.
Approximately 16 firefighters responded to the scene. YFD received assistance from West Valley Fire Department.
