YFD Responds to Structure Fire on Yakima Avenue

Yakima Fire Department (YFD) firefighters responded to a structure fire early Friday morning in the 500 block of West Yakima Avenue that caused an estimated $80,000 in damages. No injuries were reported from the fire.

YFD was called to the scene at 2:20 am Friday, November 18th. Upon arrival, crews found a dumpster fire in an alley that had extended into a 2-story commercial business. Pressurized smoke was showing from the roof in the single-story garage portion as well as the 2-story business portion.

YFD crews called a second alarm and received assistance from neighboring fire districts and off-duty City of Yakima personnel.

Crews contained the fire near the alley, while others checked for fire extension into the second story. The fire was extinguished and overhauled. Smoke was ventilated from the building

Fire damage extended from the alley and into a garage portion of the building. Smoke damage extended throughout the rest of the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Approximately 35 firefighters responded to the scene. YFD received assistance from East Valley, Selah, West Valley and Yakima Training Center fire departments.
