North 34th Avenue Structure Fire Injures One Person

Yakima Fire Department (YFD) firefighters responded to a commercial residential structure fire early Friday morning in the 600 block of North 34th Avenue that injured one person.

YFD was called to the scene at 1:20 am Friday, December 30th. Upon arrival, crews found the facility’s alarm and automatic sprinkler systems were activated. There was an active fire in one of the rooms. Fire crews rescued one person, who was transported to the hospital by ambulance for injuries sustained in the fire.

Crews quickly controlled the fire and moved to the floor below to check on water issues from the sprinkler activation. They found residents from multiple units were displaced due to water damage and flooding.

The initial estimated dollar loss is $100,000 for structural repairs and $100,000 for loss of contents. The cause is under investigation.

Approximately 20 firefighters responded to the scene.
