YFD Responds to Duplex Fire on Lincoln Avenue

Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews responded to a structure fire in the 4000 block of West Lincoln Avenue today, Wednesday. YFD was called to the scene at approximately 10:35 am Wednesday, April 6th.

Crews found a fully involved carport attached to a duplex, with smoke coming from the attic along the entire length of the structure above both units.

One occupant had evacuated the structure. YFD crews rescued another occupant who needed assistance in evacuating the duplex. There were no injuries.

YFD firefighters gained control of the fire and remained on scene for about two-and-a-half hours. The duplex unit where the fire began sustained 50 percent loss. The second unit sustained minimal damage.

The total dollar loss is estimated at $200,000. The Red Cross assisted occupants of the duplex.

The probable cause of the fire was discarded cigarettes.

A total of 19 firefighters responded to the scene.

The Yakima Police Department provided assistance at the scene.
