YFD Responds to Apple Bin Fire on North Gordon Road

Yakima Fire
Department (YFD) crews responded to a fire this morning, Thursday, September 26th,
in the 1400 block of North Gordon Road.

YFD responded to
the call at 4:30 am this morning and found a large stack of apple bins on fire
next to a fruit warehouse. YFD crews quickly applied water to prevent the
warehouse from catching on fire and to prevent the fire from spreading to other

West Valley School District Provides Training Opportunities

This
fall, the Yakima Fire Department (YFD) and West Valley Fire Department (WVFD) will
have training opportunities thanks to the cooperation of the West Valley School
District.

Technical Rescue Team Retrieves Man from Yakima River

Yakima Fire Department (YFD)
crews responded at about 3:00 pm today to a report of a man stranded on a log
in the Yakima River.  The 32-year-old man
was reportedly hanging onto a log in an area of the river north of Terrace
Heights Way and south of a train trestle upriver.

A joint-agency Technical Rescue
Team (TRT) was called in after the crews that first responded had located the

YFD Offers Summer Heat Safety Tips

With temperatures expected to
reach triple digits next week, the Yakima Fire Department (YFD) reminds
residents to be safe during outdoor summer activities.

“Yakima
is expected to see temperatures approach 100 degrees through the first part of
next week,” Fire Chief Aaron Markham said. “Residents should take precautions
during outdoor activities, especially during times when the heat is at its
peak.”

Iconic Stop and Go Drive-In Heavily Damaged by Fire

The popular Stop and Go Drive-In on Fruitvale Boulevard was heavily damaged as a result of a fire Thursday morning.

When YFD crews arrived on scene at about 11:45 am Thursday, July 18th, black smoke was coming from the drive-in’s roof.  YFD crews initially took a defensive approach to fighting the fire due to concern about the stability of the drive-in’s roof.  » Read more

YFD Offers Water Safety Resources

The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) offers a number of water safety resources and suggestions as community members head out to local pools, rivers, lakes and streams.

Some available resources include a lifejacket loan program, funded and maintained by the Yakima Firefighters Association. Lifejackets are available for use by the community at no cost. The Yakima Firefighters Association only asks that they be returned after your day in or on the water so someone else may borrow them as well. » Read more
