YFD Responds to Fire on South 8th Street

Thanks to alert action
by a child, a family of four was able to safely escape a house fire early this
morning, Tuesday, January 14th in the 900 block of South 8th
Street.

At 4:10 am
today, Tuesday, Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews were called to the home,
where a family with two children had already escaped after one of the children woke

The holiday

Investigation Continues for 3rd Avenue Fire

An investigation
continues today, Monday, December 2nd, into a fire that caused $1
million in damages early Sunday morning, December 1st, in the 100 block of South 3rd Avenue.

Yakima Fire Department (YFD) investigators
are today working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to determine if

YFD Offers Electrical Safety Tips

In the wake of a
fire yesterday, Sunday, that displaced a family and caused an estimated $30,000
in damages, the Yakima Fire Department (YFD) is reminding residents about the
following electrical safety tips:

  • Never plug a space heater into an
    extension cord because space heaters are designed to be energized by wall
    mounted receptacles.

encourages Yakima residents to follow some basic safety tips.

fires happen most often on Thanksgiving Day,” said Markham. “Cooking equipment is involved in almost half of all

YFD Responds to Fire on Alder Street

Yakima Fire
Department (YFD) crews responded to a house fire yesterday, Tuesday, November
12th, that claimed the life of a Yakima resident.

The fire was
reported at 4:13 pm yesterday afternoon in the 1300 block of Alder Street.

Firefighters
arrived to find fire and heavy smoke throughout the interior of the home. Crews
found a woman in the living room area who was unconscious and not breathing. » Read more

“Fall Back,” a Reminder to Check Smoke Alarms

Daylight Saving Time will
officially end at 2:00 am on Sunday, November 3rd. Clocks are set
back one hour and many people set their clocks to “fall back” before
they go to bed the night before, in this case Saturday, November 2nd.

When you
change your clocks, the Yakima Fire Department (YFD) suggests also testing your

YFD Responds to Duplex Fire on South 9th Avenue

Yakima Fire
Department (YFD) crews responded to a fire early this morning, Tuesday, October
29th, involving a duplex in the 700 block of South 9th Avenue.

The fire was
reported at 2:19 am this morning. Firefighters arrived to find fire coming from
the front and side windows of one of the units.

The Yakima
Police Department (YPD) was on scene and evacuated residents in the adjoining

YFD Responds to Wilson Lane Structure Fire

Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews responded to a fire last night, Wednesday, October 9th, in the 800 block of Wilson Lane.

YFD responded to the call at 7:20 pm last night when a neighbor reported seeing flames from the roof of a house. Firefighters arrived and worked quickly to extinguish the fire and contain the damage to the roof and attic space. » Read more

Fire Prevention Week Begins October 6th

The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) is
partnering with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to promote
National Fire Prevention Week, which begins Sunday, October 6th. This
year’s campaign is themed, “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your
Escape!”

In 2018, YFD responded to 118 structure
