Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews responded to a structure fire last night, Sunday, June 30th, in the 1600 block of South 15th Street. (It is the practice of the Yakima Fire Department to not release the specific address of a private home involved in a fire or other emergency response)
YFD responded to the call at 6:44 pm yesterday and found fire under the home’s floor, in the attic space and the living space.
Two occupants were sleeping in the manufactured home when the fire was discovered. They were able to leave without assistance from YFD. They reported minor irritation from breathing smoke, but did not require treatment.
A total of five people lived in the house and all were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross is providing assistance.
The fire started adjacent to the electrical service for the house. It is believed that overheated electrical circuits caused the fire.
The initial estimated dollar loss was $43,000, which is the initial estimated value of the property.
Approximately 16 YFD firefighters were on scene responding to the fire.
