Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews responded to a house fire yesterday, Tuesday, November 12th, that claimed the life of a Yakima resident.
The fire was reported at 4:13 pm yesterday afternoon in the 1300 block of Alder Street.
Firefighters arrived to find fire and heavy smoke throughout the interior of the home. Crews found a woman in the living room area who was unconscious and not breathing. CPR was attempted immediately on the woman, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Her name and age are not available pending the fire investigation.
Several pets perished in the home as a result of the fire. The house and its contents were significantly damaged by the fire. The dollar loss was estimated at $30,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. YFD will be assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives this morning.
A crew from YFD remained at the scene overnight to maintain the security of the fire scene for further investigation. No firefighters were injured.
