Sunfair Parade
The weather was warm and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky for the annual Sunfair Parade on Saturday, September 20th. The City of Yakima Fire Department had a three fire engines in the parade, including the antique engine, as well as the Mobile Air Unit and Mobile Rehab Unit. Smillie Receives Apple Award
At the September 16th Yakima City Council Meeting, Firefighter Brian Smillie was presented with an Apple Award for his heroic act while on vacation at Cannon Beach, Oregon. A family that had been out surfing had been pulled out in a rip current and were not able to paddle back into shore. Fortunately, Brian was able to use his kayak to paddle out in the rip current and pull the family to shore. » Read more
9/11 Commemoration Ceremony
On September 11, 2014, the City of Yakima Fire Department held a 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony at the Yakima Convention Center in honor of the 13th anniversary of the tragic attacks on America, and to pay tribute to the roughly 3,000 civilians and 400 Emergency Responders who lost their lives.
