Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews responded yesterday, Tuesday, April 2nd, to a fire in the basement of a home in the 200 block of South 16th Avenue. (It is the practice of the Yakima Fire Department to not release the specific address of a private home involved in a fire or other emergency response)
YFD responded to the call at 2:14 pm yesterday. All of the home’s occupants were out of the house by the time YFD crews arrived. No injuries were reported.
The fire occurred in a bedroom that had been converted into a sewing room, where one of the occupants made blankets for under-privileged persons. The fire was contained to the one room, and was mainly in the yarn and sewing material used to make blankets.
The fire did not affect the rest of the house and the occupants were not displaced by the fire.
Damages were estimated at $15,000.
Approximately 18 YFD firefighters were on scene responding to the fire.
