Fire Causes Estimated $200,000 in Damages

Damage to a house and property in the 6600 block of North Glacier Court is estimated at $200,000 following a fire early this morning, Sunday, July 12th. (It is the practice of the Yakima Fire Department to not release the specific address of a private home involved in a fire or other emergency response.)

The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) was called to the scene at 3:47 am this morning. Crews arrived to find the front of the house and a row of arborvitae involved in a large fire that resulted in ash falling down over a 5-block area. They also found extensive fire in the attic.

YFD had the fire under control by 4:45 am and crews remained on scene until 6:30 am cleaning up hot spots. There were no injuries reported and one person was displaced.

The fire burned 150 feet of full-grown arborvitae and burned away 50 percent of the roof. There was also smoke and water damage to part of the house.

Fire damaged power and communication lines. It is anticipated that utility crews will be on scene most of today restoring power and communication services. Drivers are asked to avoid the area of 66th Avenue north of Summitview Avenue while crews are at work.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
