The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) responded to two structure fires in a span of about eight hours last night, Tuesday, and early this morning.
YFD firefighters were first called to the 1700 block of South 17th Street at 8:14 pm Tuesday night, where light smoke was coming from the eaves of the house. Firefighters extinguished the fire and Pacific Power & Light removed power to the house due to burned circuits.
The fire charred the roof structural support of the house. The ceiling had to be removed to extinguish the fire. The fire damaged the home’s wiring.
The initial estimated dollar loss is $20,000. No injuries were reported and one family was displaced.
It is believed an overloaded circuit started the fire.
YFD also responded to a house fire at 4:51 am this morning, Wednesday, in the 1600 block of East Mead Avenue.
Firefighters found the fire in the bedroom. The fire burned a hole in the floor and smoke spread throughout the entire house, damaging all of its contents.
No one was home at the time of the fire, which caused an estimated $30,000 in damages.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. No injuries were reported.
