Fire Damages Home on South 14th Street

The Red Cross is assisting the resident of a home in the 800 block of South 14th Street after a fire damaged the residence and garage last night, Tuesday, June 2nd.

The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) was called to the scene at 7:10 pm Tuesday. Firefighters arrived to find the 700 square-foot building with heavy fire in the garage and spreading into the residence. » Read more

YFD Offers Safety Tips for Working From Home

More individuals are working from home due to COVID-19.

May is National Electrical Safety Month. It provides a good reminder regarding electrical safety, particularly around the home.

“Wherever you work, it’s always important to be safe,” said Yakima Fire Chief Aaron Markham. “That’s especially true now with more and more people working at home.”

The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) and the non-profit Electrical Safety Foundation International offer the following home office safety tips:

  • Avoid overloading outlets
  • Regularly inspect electrical cords and extension cords for damage
  • Extension cords should only be used on a temporary basis
  • Never run cords under rugs/carpets,

YFD responds to 2nd Street Fire

The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) responded to a fire last night, Sunday, May 3rd in the 100 block of South 2nd Street.

YFD crews were called to the scene at 11:23 pm last night. Upon arrival, firefighters found a large volume of fire on the structure’s exterior. The fire had spread to the roof and attic. » Read more

YFD responds to seven fires overnight

The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) responded to seven
fires in a span of just over six hours, from about 9:30 pm Monday, March 30th,
through 3:40 am Tuesday, March 31st.

The first of the seven overnight fires involved one
unit in a 4-plex in the 600 block of West Nob Hill Boulevard. The fire was reported

from last night through early this morning, Thursday, March 26th:

Daylight Saving Time Begins March 8th

Daylight
saving time will officially begin at 2:00 am on Sunday, March 8th.
Clocks are set ahead one hour and many people set their clocks to “spring
forward” before they go to bed the night before, in this case Saturday, March 7th.

When
you change your clocks, the Yakima Fire Department and the National Safety
Council suggest also taking the opportunity to conduct safety checks around your

or text communications.

by Everbridge, the service is the emergency notification system for Yakima
