One person was injured and approximately 40 people were evacuated Wednesday morning due to a fire at an apartment building on South 4th Street near Downtown Yakima. (It is the practice of the Yakima Fire Department to not release the specific address of a private home involved in a fire or other emergency response)
Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews responded to the call of a third-floor apartment on fire at about 10:00 am Wednesday morning.
One resident was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment of facial burns.
Approximately 40 residents of the apartment building, and their pets, were evacuated and transported in a Yakima Transit bus to a Red Cross shelter. The Yakima Police Department assisted with the evacuation.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.
Approximately 25 YFD firefighters were on scene responding to the fire.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and remains under investigation.
