With fall quarter for College coming up in August, you and even parents are preparing for a big step in life, moving away from home for the first time as an adult. It is a big responsibility to undertake, managing school, your life, meeting new friends, a job, where you live etc.
Lets go back to the “where you live” statement. Statistics from United States Fire Administration (USFA) show that since 2005, EVERY College related fire fatality was in Off-Campus housing (apartments, homes converted into multi- unit residences). So how important is Fire Safety to you or your student? In 2012, two female College students lost their lives to fire in an off-campus housing apartment. Out of this tragedy, these parents goal is to educate and prevent another loss of life! They have created a website with all kinds of information from what you should know before signing that contract, to campus drinking etc.
The Campaign, “See it before you sign it” encourages parents to see the off-campus apartment where their child will be living before anyone signs a lease.
