At about 8:40 pm on Christmas day, Yakima Fire Department (“YFD”) crews responded to a fire call at a house in the 1000 block of North 6th Avenue. Flames from the fire were reported to be visible from several blocks away. No one was living in the house at the time of the fire.
Once on scene, YFD firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-story house. Due to the intensity of the flames and smoke, YFD crews were unable to enter the house and instead focused on keeping the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.
A call for mutual aid was responded to by crews from the Yakima Training Center and the West Valley Fire Department. A total of 29 firefighters responded to the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The house and all of its contents were destroyed as a result of the fire. The initial dollar loss due to damage from the fire is estimated at $80,000.
