The Yakima Fire Department (YFD) responded to a structure fire yesterday, Monday, which displaced two occupants of a house in the 1200 block of Cherry Avenue.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 5:09 pm Monday when the homeowner reported the house on fire upon returning home from work.
Crews entered the home to find black, hot smoke. Firefighters extinguished the fire within 15 minutes and remained on scene for nearly one-and-a-half hours for overhaul and investigation.
There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The initial estimated dollar loss is $25,000.
There was fire damage to the living room, and smoke damage to the entire home and its contents.
The Red Cross is assisting the home’s two occupants.
