SunComm Implementing Smart911 Application

SunComm, the 9-1-1 and dispatch center serving the City and County of Yakima, is implementing a new application called Smart911.

This is a free, subscription-based service that allows the public to provide additional information to the 9-1-1 call taker. The primary focus of this program is households with residents who have special needs. A household subscribing to Smart911 can add this information in a secure and protected application that would then show up to the call taker, who then can provide that information to first responders so they are aware of those special circumstances.

Secondarily, it can be used to provide any additional information that could benefit first responders. Smart911 subscribers can enter information about pets, gate and door codes, etc… that could be beneficial during an emergency response.

Smart911 brings SunComm into compliance with the Travis Alert Act, which was introduced into legislation by 14th District State Representative Gina Mosbrucker.

Smart911 is a nationwide program available in 40 states and 1,500 communities.
